Melaka Biotechnology Division, established in February 2006, is an initiative of the Melaka State Government to promote R&D based industries in Melaka. The Division has now grown into Melaka Biotechnology Corporation. The Melaka Institute of Biotechnology is the R&D wing of the Melaka Biotechnology Corporation while Melaka  Biotechnology Holdings Sdn. Bhd. deal with the commercialisation of biotechnology. Melaka Institute of Biotechnology is also a recognised setellite centre for Malaysia’s Bio Valley.
